  1. Hi Gary!

The scenery is so beautiful – lush shades of green! It seems like the amount of rain and being cold/wet got you down. Good idea to flex and skip some of the hiking. If you say it’s more vertical than the Appalachian Trail, then it’s a good thing Elizabeth isn’t with you! Keep it up, though! You’ve had some great food and met some very nice people. I would never get tired of pizza!

Do you think your experience would be different if you were walking in the same direction as the general flow of people?

Are you able to use What’s App for calling Elizabeth? What is the time difference between where you are and AZ?

    Love,
    Cindy

    1. Hi Cindy The first two days the Haute Route, which is what I am walking, goes the opposite direction of the TMB. So I was seeing everyone from the very busy TMB. Now I am walking with the flow of the Haute Route. There is a fraction of the number of people walking this route. Yesterday afternoon I walked backwards for 3 miles then returned on the same trail. Here in the hotel are probably 7 other hikers. Non are American. Elizabeth is 9 hours behind us. Today she is heading to Florida so it will be a 6 hour difference.

I hope this clarifies things. Thanks for the comments.

Elizabeth says you went for a hike the other day. I hope you continue to improve. My surgery was much more simple, but I have really had zero issues since. It was a total game changer.

      Take care, Gary

      1. Hi Gary!
Interesting that now you are walking with the flow of the HR! So Elizabeth is 9 hours behind you! That’s quite a lot of hours! We think it’s a hassle to arrange time with our AZ gang! We anxiously await when we go back to EST and it’s only 2 hours difference. 1 hour to NOLA year round. Thanks for clarifying things!
We have returned to hiking (our style!). Went to the Milton Town Forest yesterday and hiked 3.4 miles. That was incredible for me! We started out after my surgery, walking down at the town soccer fields 1/4 mile 1x a day, increasing to 1/4 mile 2x a day and gradually moving up to yesterday’s 3.4 miles. It has been the best answer to my recovery. I’m 7 1/2 weeks out of surgery and am feeling really good. Of course, not my normal but considering the surgeon told me he hoped I could walk 1 mile after a YEAR! I am grateful for my return to good health. It’s been a journey!
I don’t know if I told Elizabeth but Lile Bedard has been dealing with cancer. She had a total hysterectomy and at least 5 chemo treatments. She’s now having only infusions of Keytruda without chemo. Please keep her in your thoughts.
We had Heather here last weekend all by herself. She originally was coming in early August to help out after my surgery but got Covid and couldn’t come. We were glad for the delay. I really didn’t want her to see me feeling so bad.
Keep on posting your blog. I absolutely love reading about your adventures. Stay safe and I hope the weather is better! We are in a drought in VT with countless days of sunshine and temps in the 70’s. The leaves are turning early this year. We love it!
Thanks for writing to me individually! It was a nice morning surprise today!
        Love,
        Cindy
