I am enjoying your tales of this trip very much. I am wondering about your knowledge of Spanish/Portuguese. Did you take that in college or is living in AZ familiarizing you with the language? Also wondering about your communication with Elizabeth. Do you use What’s App? Keep enjoying your trip!

Hi Cindy – I have used Duolingo off and on for a few years and this is my 5th time over here. No I never had Spanish in school. I did speak some French when I was in school, wish I did have Spanish. I do think living in Phoenix helps as well, even though I do not communicate in Spanish. I am by no means fluent, I just understand words, and those words are very much based on travel – food, getting a room, etc.
Yes, we use What’s App to communicate. That is the standard for international travelers. Pretty much everyone here walking uses What’s App.
