Almost no rain yesterday and none today! It is nice arriving to the hostel being dry. Today was warm (60) and quite windy. Temps (highs) are supposed to be back in the 40s in 2 days. Thanks for following along.
Pamplona to Estella
Tomorrow I am doing a long day (18 miles, so not too long) but into a small town, so wifi may be weak. That is why I am posting 2 days instead of 3. Anyway – all is good. I feel fine physically. No blisters or sore body parts. It has been surprisingly quiet. Thanks for following along.
St Jean to Pamplona
My trip is off and walking. I am 3 days and about 42 miles in. I feel great, so that is nice. It is very quiet. I will probably post on a three day schedule.
Thanks for following along.
Gary is off to Spain
I leave January 1 for a winter walk on the Camino Frances across northern Spain. Elizabeth has chosen to stay warm in Phoenix, so I am off on a solo adventure. Like on the AT – I am going alone, but there will be lots of new friends to meet along the way. I have published a Camino 2025 recap page and a Camino 2025 Intro page that give more details.
It has been almost 4 months since we have had measurable rainfall here in Phoenix and for the past 2 months our average high has been about 75 degrees. I am looking forward to having some weather to deal with. I plan to post every 2 to 3 days as I make my way across Spain.
The Farm at Lake Clark
This will be our last post for a while. Rangeley and I (G) head out Friday to drive to the east coast to visit family, then head to Ohio to visit our Amish friends. In the past we have journaled a trip like this. We are down to 2 National Parks remaining, but we will continue to revisit our favorites and find fun state parks to travel to. Thanks for reading along.
Lake Clark
We have been a bit slow to post this one. Another amazing trip. We love Alaska and look forward to the two remaining Parks on our list – Glacier Bay and Wrangell St Elias. Hopefully next summer. I am off to the east with Rangeley in a few days. Elizabeth will fly to Boston. We don’t plan to post anything on this summer’s road trip.
Katmai National Park
The bear viewing at Brooks Falls lived up to our very high expectations. We are having a great time here in Alaska. We will post Lake Clark when we arrive home. Two days ago the high was 49. This mornings low was 37. It is going to be tough to return to the Phoenix heat.
Denali – Round 2
We thoroughly enjoyed our return trip to Talkeetna and the flight around Denali the mountain. We are in Lake Clark now having an awesome time. We will be posting Lake Clark and Katmai separately at the end of the week.
Kobuk Valley National Park
Another amazing adventure visiting our wonderful National Parks. The Parks are amazing, but the journeys we have been on are incredible. Kobuk and Gates draw the true Park chasers, so it is fun for us to meet people just as _____ as us. I will let you fill in the adjective there. (adventurous/obsessed….) We also love meeting the locals at the Parks in the remote locations – Northern Alaska and American Samoa. These Parks tend to be at the end of peoples list as they take quite an effort to get to. American Samoa was our 5th Park visited, which is quite unusual. Elizabeth had a job in Hawaii in January 2020, so I met here there and we flew from Honolulu to Pago Pago, American Samoa to visit that Park.
We hope you enjoy reading about Kobuk. It has been 2 years since we last visited a new Park. Today we flew into Denali (a repeat visit) and tomorrow we fly into Lake Clark for 6 nights, including visiting Katmai. We will be posting again soon. Thanks for reading.
Ireland
G – OK, we have been a bit slow posting this one. We had a great couple of days in Dublin, what an amazing journey, start to finish. I left Phoenix on April 10th and got home June 17th. Now in a few days we are off to Alaska continue our National Parks. We will be posting those as we go. Thanks for following along.
