Rabe de las Calzadas to Fromista

I am settling into the walking every day. My feet still get tired after 15 miles on a hard surface, but overall I feel great. No blister issues. The weather has really been very good. Less sun than last year, but I think less rain as well. I think the trail is quieter as well. With the gray skies it seems like there is not as much green as last year. Thanks for following along.

Granon to Rabe de las Calzadas

I am now in the flatter part of the Camino. The Meseta runs from Burgos to Leon. I have had great weather the past several days. That probably ends tomorrow as the rain returns. The past two days and tomorrow do not have many options in the winter, so I need to carry food and water for the day. Today was great because I had Burgos in the middle of my day.

St Jean

Just a quick update. I am in St Jean Pied de Port, France now. I start walking west tomorrow – Saturday January 3. My first post may be in 2 days, but I am not sure I will have wifi, so it could be once I get back to Pamplona in 3 days. I checked in at the Pilgrim’s office, got some snacks and trekking poles, so no more excuses. Tomorrow is a 3,000 foot climb up to Roncesvalles, back in Spain. A cold front is forecast to come through with a little snow and temperatures in the teens. Colder than anything I saw last year. I asked for some weather, and it looks like I am going to get it.

I was the 6th person to sign in today (4pm). The last American was December 29th. The 5 before me today were 2 Koreans, 2 Argentina and 1 Spanish.

Camino 2026

Yes, I (Gary) am doing another winter walk. I fly out of Phoenix in a few days, on December 31, 2025 and fly to Pamplona, connecting through Charlotte, NC and Madrid. The link below is my recap page for this walk. I will publish new entries every few days like previous walks. I will send out notices as well so you can follow along. I always appreciate feedback and questions. It gives me new ideas to include in my entries.

Zermatt

I arrived in Zermatt today. I will be here tomorrow, then am off to Zurich and home. It has been 3 great days since I last posted, so figured I would go ahead and post today. As always, thanks for following along. I understand several of you are having problems commenting. I wish I knew what the problem was.
